We have all felt the pain and loss of a friend or a family member and had a quick glance at the thought “we need to make it count.” It is hard to write about in a way that really sets the appropriate tone, but I want to try.
Days ago, I lost a long-time friend, former business partner, and a person I both liked and respected deeply to a courageous battle with cancer. He was 41.
The days following his passing and the service to celebrate his life sent home a loud and clear message that will hopefully stick with me, drive me, and make me better in many ways.
The simple message is LIVE. Life full, live today, and make it count. To me, that means laugh a little more, take the extra steps to catch a friend passing at the mall who may not otherwise see you. It means hug your family more and fight less. Take a vacation day because you really can. Challenge yourself, but don’t take yourself too seriously either. Enjoy the ride.
In the business world, it is a really clear message to me. Do what you love. Do what matters to you and to the world. Make a difference. Move the needle, and LIVE.
