What’s Draining You—and What’s Fueling You?

Most entrepreneurs measure success by productivity and revenue. But let me ask you something different:

What if your biggest growth unlock isn’t about doing more—but identifying where your energy actually goes?

The truth is, you can’t scale a business sustainably if your personal energy is constantly running on empty. Plus, your life itself just won’t be as robust and rewarding.

Let’s break down how a simple personal energy audit can help you regain control, elevate your output, and create unstoppable momentum.

Why an Energy Audit is Your Secret Advantage

We often obsess over optimizing our businesses—systems, processes, and marketing funnels. But have you ever audited your own energy?

Here’s why this matters: You can have the best business strategy in the world, but if your mental, emotional, and physical energy are mismanaged, you’ll constantly hit invisible ceilings.

Here’s the big shift: Stop thinking about your calendar as time management—it’s energy management.

The 4-Part Personal Energy Audit

To get clarity, we need to look at four specific zones:

  1. Unique Abilities (Energy Producing, and Critically Important)

The most important thing on your calendar (with a target of 80%) is focused time in your Zone of Genius, or what Dan Sullivan calls your “Unique Ability 2”. This is where you personally can move the needle in your business, but also is perfectly aligned with your skills and passion… and guess what, when you do it, you get MORE energy. Time in this zone creates energy.

  1. Recharge Activities (Another Power Source)
These are the things that refill your tank—activities that leave you feeling stronger, sharper, and more focused.
Examples: Morning workouts, deep conversations, creative sessions, and quiet walks.
  2. Neutral Activities (Maintenance Mode)
These don’t excite or drain you—they’re neutral but necessary.
Examples: Routine meetings, answering basic emails, and daily admin work.
  3. Drain Activities (Energy Leaks)
These are the things that sap your energy, slow you down, and often create hidden stress.
Examples: Endless notifications, fire drills, unstructured tasks, and overbooked schedules.

The Hidden Costs of Energy Leaks

One of the fastest ways to sabotage your growth is by letting energy leaks run unchecked.

Here’s what energy leaks look like in real life:

  • Saying “yes” to calls or projects that don’t align with your goals.
  • Multitasking to the point of diminishing returns.
  • Focusing on small tasks instead of the big, strategic moves.
  • Spending time doing things that you should delegate, automate or delete.

Left unchecked, these leaks compound—leading to burnout, overwhelm, and slower growth.

But here’s the good news: Once you identify where your energy goes, you can plug the leaks and double down on what fuels you.

Energy Drives Execution

Here’s what happens when you master your personal energy:

  • You make decisions faster.
  • You show up sharper for your team and clients.
  • You create space for creativity and breakthroughs.

Scaling isn’t just about building systems for your business—it’s about building systems for yourself.

P.S. Time is the most valuable thing in your life… and energy is time’s currency. If you’re ready to design a life and business where energy flows instead of leaks, OPTION 3 can show you how to create systems that fuel your growth AND increase your personal freedom (ie. TIME).

2Unique Ability: Per Dan Sullivan’s work, You can begin by brainstorming what activities and skills in your day-to-day life can be described by these four qualities:

Superior skill. You produce outstanding results with this talent. It’s so natural to you, you can’t help but do this extraordinarily well. Others notice this skill, rely on it, and value it.

  1. Passion. You love to do this, and probably did it in some form long before you got paid for it. In fact, many people continue to give their Unique Ability away for free because they don’t recognize how special and valuable it is.
  2. Energy. Using your Unique Ability gives you a boost of energy. The people around you get energy from you too, because it’s fun and exciting to be around someone who’s both passionate about and talented at what they’re doing. Likewise, when you surround yourself with other Unique Abilities, your days are filled with positivity, dynamism, and creativity.
  3. Never-ending improvement. You’re already exceptional at this, yet you could do it for the rest of your life and always find new ways to get better and better.
